Tour description
This tour takes participants to a lovely yet largely ignored section of the city which has many beautiful spots to explore yet does not attract the usual crowds (except in the fall when the maple leaf colors are amazing).
Our first stop is to an 8th century Tendai sect temple with incredible gardens, architecture and over 1200 artworks.
A short walk and we arrive at a humble local shrine which rarely attracts tourists despite its 1000+ year history and calm ambience.
A leisurely walk south through the back streets of Ichijoji brings us to the a famous Zen temple originally established as a school by famous warlord Ieyasu and now popular as both a place to practice Zazen (seated meditation) and as a viewing spot for maple tree colors during the fall.
We continue our journey with stops at a pictureseque Poet’s retreat and a shrine dedicated to one of Japan’s most famous warriors.

The tour usually lasts approximately 4 hrs. If you have an appointment after the tour that you do not want to miss, please let us know.
Where does the tour end?
The tour usually ends at Tofukuji station. Your guide will assist you in calling a cab or providing instructions allowing you to retutrn to your accomodation or continue to your next destination.
